Polar Dreams

Hello everyone! It's Delphine here today to share some colouring inspiration, with a cute polar bear and his penguin friend, and a bit of airbrushing. The stamp set I'm using today is called Star Gazing Friends by Penny Black.

  

First, I masked my image to airbrush my background.

I wanted a purple-tinted background, so I picked BV08, V09 and V15. I started by airbrushing BV08 following the edges of my card, then filled in the space in the middle with V09, then V15 and I went back with a bit of BV 08 at the end to darken the edges a little. 

Next, I coloured the bear in Warm Greys - W0, 1, 3 , 5. For the penguin, I used C1, 3, 5, 7, 9. As you can see, I left a very thin white line on the edges of my penguin, for the next step.

To make the penguin's grey more bluish, I added B45 in the white spots I left in the previous step and over the lighter grey parts. 

For the bear, I decided to enhance the fur using a white gel pen, and drawing little white hair, as I saw the super talented Jane Box of Colours once do. And no more Copic on the bear once gel pen is applied to avoid ruining the nibs!

I then added shadows to the snow, using BG000 and V20.

I stamped a sentiment, then stamped 3 stars from the Star Gazing Friends set and covered them in gel pen - and voilà!

It's snowing!

Hello everyone! It's Delphine here today! I am completely in Christmas mood right now, so I'm sharing a Christmas scene today - I just like making these so much! 

For this tutorial, I'm using a cute stamp by Penny Black called Hopping By, my Copics of course and my Airbrush.

Step 1: I prepared my card for airbrushing. I stamped my rabbit in Memento Ink on my card, covered it with a blue mask, covered the edges of my card with washi tape and added a hill.

Step 2: I airbrushed my background, using RV66, RV55, V15 and RV11.

Step 3: I stamped trees and a branch (by Penny Black too) to add a bit of interest to my background.

Step 4: I then coloured my main image, the rabbit, in Copics.

Step 5: I added all the details that can make a difference :) I coloured the snow in Copics and added white acrylic paint to my trees and for snowflakes.

Love at Christmas

Hello everyone! It's Delphine here today to share some Christmas inspiration. I picked an adorable stamp by Penny Black, called Nose to Nose and decided to have a play with my airbrush.

I masked my stamped image to protect my bears and created a hill with Post-It notes. I did not go to the trouble of cutting the mask between my bears because I had in mind to draw a background after airbrushing.

Above, you can see what it looked like, once the airbrushing was done. I used B02, BG15, BV34 and a bit of V01.

I removed the masks, and then realised that I really liked the look of the sky and should not draw a background on it... so, more masking, this time to do the space between the bears lol!

I used B02 and BG15.

I then coloured the bears. I used W0, 1, 3, 5 for their fur, C5, R35, 37, 39 for the red scarf, and RV63, 66, 69 for the pink one.

Next I added a bit of C2, BG000 and B00 for the snow (yes, white always needs to be coloured a bit!). I also added some stickles on the ground and white acrylic paint with a Molotow marker for the snowflakes.

Bears: W0, 1, 3, 5, R20

Red: C5, R35, 37, 39

Pink: RV63, 66, 69

Sky: B02, BG15, BV34, V01

Using two rectangle dies, I created a frame for my cute pair.

Because it was quite a while ago, I decided to use my airbrush again. 

The airbrush is fabulous for making nice backgrounds with your Copic markers. 

Use a thick cardstock (I am using Bristol paper) and get a few of your stencils out on the table. 

I start with the B04 and spray some colour through my stencil.

My 2nd colour is R34. I also turned the stencil to make a checkered pattern.

I have the small stencil in smaller stripes, so I decided to use that as well in the same colours. 

I thought the background was still a little dull, so I added the Y08 randomly on the page. 

I also use some stamps to make the background a bit more interesting. 

When you use your stencils with an airbrush they really get dirty, but with a little hand sanitiser you clean them in a few seconds. 

Start with a layer of E50 and use BV00 for a schadow.

Add a layer of  E00 over the BV00 to make a warmer skintone. 

Blend  all layers together with E000 and E0000. 

I use the R35, 37 and 39 voor her hair and lips and B04 for her glasses. 

Add shadow with the B06. 

Blend all layers together with the B04. 

Use the Y08, 13 and 18 for the flower and the owl. 

Use the same yellows and blues for the hat and add some BV00 as shadow. 

The trousers , shoes and shirt will be red. I start with the R35. 

I also use  B04 for her shirt.

And some  Y08 for the hearts. Use a thin markers to make a checkered pattern in the hearts of the flower. 

Add more depth with the B06.

And B06. Blend all layers together B04. 

Use the R39 for the darkest parts of her trousers and shoes. 

I also use R37 and then I blend all layers together with R35. 

Use the same colours blue, yellow and red for the houses too.

I found a nice quote on the internet. Use a graphit pencil to write the quote on your page and use a thin marker to trace the words.  

And this is the end result.

Spring Bling Wryn...

Happy Thursday!

It's Sue here today with a super technique for creating a background with stamps and Copics.

You will need a stamped image, (I have used the beautiful 

Spring Bling Wryn by Tiddly Inks), a background Stamp (I have used Notable Blooms Background by Taylored Expressions), Masking sheet, Copic Airbrush System, Copic Markers and some Colourless Blender.

First I created a  mask of my stamped image Wryn with masking sheet... 

...and placed the mask over the image I intend to colour later.

Then, as I will be using an airbrush I covered my desk with paper (Do not forget to do this or you will end up with a very interesting looking desk)!
I decided (with a little help from our lovely Faye) to use FBG2 in the Airbrush to create the background.

Then, I started to colour the background using the airbrush.

You can get a lovely effect with the Airbrush.  It uses less ink than direct colouring and the trigger is pressure sensitive so you can vary how much ink you use.  Remember that the ink will cover the card in front of where you are pointing the marker and the chisel nib gives a smoother effect.  (the brush nib is lovely to use for some projects as it creates a splatter effect but you don't need that here)!
I airbrushed the card about three times in order to get a depth of colour I liked.

I removed the mask carefully with a pair of tweezers so that I didn't get any marks on the inky background.

I love it when you remove the mask and see the image underneath sat inside a beautifully coloured background.

Next, I stamped the background with the Notable Blooms stamp.

It is important to work quickly here as the Colourless Blender will evaporate quite rapidly.
It's a good idea to get everything ready before you put the blender in the pot!

I used a spare top to a Tim Holtz 'dabber' bottle to apply the blender to the stamp, it holds quite a bit of blender and I was able to cover the whole stamp quickly.

Then I stamped the background onto my airbrushed design.  The secret here is to make sure you haven't used too much blender and you don't press down too hard.  A light touch will be all you need to apply the blender to the design.

Your design will now look something like this and you can carry on colouring sweet Wryn with Copic Markers.  Don't worry if some background ink has seeped under the mask - you can ease it out with a colourless blender pen.
