Beginner vs intermediate colouring of a character

Hello everyone! It's Delphine here today :) For today's post, I decided to focus on the colouring of a character, showing 2 levels of colouring at the same time - certainly not to say one is good and the other is not good, but to show what real beginners can try to achieve, what you can do to try and improve your colouring and to show the differences between the two types of colouring. Open your eyes, and analyse ;)

So basically no card here since it is not the point today, but 2 coloured characters. For my tutorial, I used an adorable digi by Vera Lane Studio, a girl from the "I love hedgehogs" digi set.

You can see the colouring process for both characters at the same time below:

Here are the coloured characters, with beginner on the left, and intermediate on the right - and a recap of the Copics I used:

Skin: E000, 00, 11, 15
Hair: 100, W5, 7
Red: R35, 37, 59, W7
Pink: BV00, RV32, 34

Colouring a face and hair with The Greeting Farm

Hello everyone! It's Delphine here today, coming back after a little break :) For today's post, I thought I would show how I colour a face and hair with highlights using a cropped image so you could hopefully see well how I do it. I also aimed at using unusual colours for me - pink, which I think can be a bit difficult.

For my card I used a digi by The Greeting Farm called Miss Anya Bewitch, here is the final card:

I coloured all my elements in Copics, except for a bit of glitter pen for a few details, and and you can see the whole colouring process below:

You will note that I only used 2 colours for my hair - no need to have a ton of markers - and left white highlights to show the paper, a look some people like. Also, to give more depth, I used a grey marker below the pink as a first layer.

Here is a close up of my colouring and a recap of all the Copics I used:

Skin: BV00, E000, 00, 04, 11, 71
Hair: 100, W7
Pink: R85, RV13, 29 (+W7 for hat)
Gold: E35, Y11, YR23
Purple: V09, 15, 17
Background: RV13, 21

After the video, I stamped a sentiment and doodled dots and splatter with my black Copic marker. I also added gold gel pen around the edges of my image.

Thanks for stopping by today, have a great day! Hugs,

Aall & Create Copic Video

Hello everyone! It's Delphine here today to share a little Copic scene with Aall & Create stamps which I have fallen in love with recently. Here is my final card:

I used a character and a plant from The Gardener set #424. For the background I chose the Leaves #556 stamp which I die cut to suggest a bush, and on a die cut piece of paper I stamped a cloud from the Follow Rainbows #524 set. I coloured all my elements in Copics and you can see the whole colouring process below:

Here is a close up of my scene and recap of all the Copics I used:

Skin: E000, 00, 11, 25
Eyes: B60, 63, E43
Hair: E25, 59, YR23
Red: RV69, R35, R37, W7
T-Shirt: E43, 44
Pot: C7, E41, 43, 59, G28, RV66, 69, YG06
Leaf Background: C7, G28, YG03, 17
Sky: B000, RV00, 11
Cloud: B000, BV00, RV00

I aimed at having contrast on my character, hence the use of E25 on the skin, then going back to add more layers of colour for skin and hair and all the grey underlayers for the reds and greens.

Thanks for stopping by today, have a lovely day! Hugs,
Delphine xx

A Flower Memorydex card

Hello everyone! It's Delphine here today to share a memorydex card featuring flowers. I love my Memorydex or Rolodex, which is actually a Toutenrolex since mine is made by Toutencolle, and I use it to make date cards to help me remember important dates.

I stamped some flowers from the Fleurs de Gnomes set by Toutencolle and coloured everything in Copics. Here is my final card:

You can see the whole colouring process below:

Here is a close up on the image and the list of all the Copics I used:

Background: E81, 84, 87
Flowers: RV06, 09, 14, 19, 42, 69
Hearts & poppies: R35, 37, 59, W7
Leaves: G287, YG03, 17
Yellow: E35, Y38

After colouring everything in Copics, I simply added touches of pencil (Payne's Grey) to add a bit more depth and a few highlights in white gel pen.

Polkadoodles Together Always Video

Hello everyone! It's Delphine here today to share a slimline card! I love creating cards with hearts, sending love and I think there is no particular mome,t to do that, it is something you can do all year round.

I chose a love image by Polkadoodles called Together Always and decided to create a little slimline scene.

Here is my final colouring:

You can see the whole colouring process below:

Because the image is quite small I reduced some combos to just 2 markers for blending instead of 3 or 4.
Here is a close up on the image and the list of all the Copics I used:

Background: 0, R00, R01
Hills: G21, 24, 28, YG01, 17, 25, 67

Here is my final colouring:

Spotlight on R markers and a Greeting Farm video

Hello everyone! It's Delphine here today to share some red inspiration!

There are 18 R Ciao and 30 R Sketch Markers, ideal for lots of combinations. To feature R markers, I chose a winter image by The Greeting Farm, from the Miss Anya Jingle set and decided to create a little scene using DPs this time as a background. In the R family, my all time favourite marker is R35, the most vivid red I know and I use it all the time in all my red combos. Also, in the R range, you can find beautiful pink and peach tones, some I used on the clothes here. For my card, I picked R11, 32, 35, 37, 59.

Here is my final colouring:

You can see the whole colouring process below:

I coloured my image in  Copics and did some fussy cutting. I picked a DP by Bo Bunny with snowflakes and since it had a few music notes in the corner, I decided my Anya was singing ;) I added a sentiment and some notes from an old Greeting Farm set called Sing Hello. Oh and for my character to have feet in the snow, I tore a piece of glitter paper to suggest snow.

Here is a close up on the image and the list of all Copics I used:

Skin: E000, 00, 11, R20
Hair: E35, 79, Y11, YR23
Red clothes: R35, 37, 59, W7
Peach clothes: R11, 32, W3
White: W1, 3, 5
Gold: Y11, YR23, W3

You can notice I use Warm Greys for shading with my reds, I find it makes a difference and greys are the easiest - not the only - way to add shading.

RV markers for Halloween & a video

Hello everyone! It's Delphine here today to share some RV inspiration!

There are 14 RV Ciao and 29 RV Sketch Markers, another great range, and I don't know why, not the one I use the most - and certainly not for Halloween usually!! But to feature RV markers, I chose a super cute image by Polkadoodles called Matilda Witch and made a little scene. I have used RV10, 11, 13, 14, 17, 69.

Here is my final colouring:

You can see the whole colouring process below:

As you can see in the video, I printed my Matilda and coloured everything in Copics. For the moon, I used a mask from a Kraftin' Kimmiestencil to colour the sky without colouring the moon and coloured it afterwards. I then added black elements, a hill and did some doodling in Copic multiliner. Last step, I added a bat in multiliner, using a bat stencil.

Here is a close up on the image and the list of all Copics I used:

Skin: E000, 00, 11, 71
Hair: 100, N5, 7
Clothes: N3, 5, 7, RV14, 17, 69, W7
Broom: E35, 59, Y11, YR21
Background: 100, N7, RV10, 11, 13 + Copic Multiliner
Moon: N1, Y000, 00
Ground: N1, 5

Thanks for stopping by today, have a nice day! Hugs,

A Halloween cat video... & a limited palette!

Hello everyone! It's Delphine here today to share some colouring inspiration. I thought I would focus on the colouring of an image without a background for once - I did have beginners in mind when I picked my image, thinking how important it is to focus on the image and mastering a few techniques before creating backgrounds. I also wanted to show how you can limit the number of markers you need - just by changing one colour in a combo and applying a different quantity of colour :) And so, today's image uses 8 markers only.

I chose a Halloween stamp from the "Des bonbons ou un Sort" set, a set made by a French store named Toutencolle. I find this Halloween cat super cute - and a great opportunity to show how to colour black and grey. To me, buying a set of grey markers is very important when you start - Cs or Ws, Ts or Ns if you have Sketch markers. No need to have all letters and all numbers, just one set with every other number is great!

Enough talking, here is the colouring process video :

As you can see, I didn't ground my character, no shadows below since I plan on using my Copic cat on a future mixed media project and will cut it out.

Here is a recap of all the colours I used:

Cat: R20, W3, 5, 7
Hat: 100, W5, 7
Buckle: E37, Y11, YR23
Broom: E37, Y11, YR23, W7

That's all from me today, thanks for stopping by! Hugs,
Delphine xx
