Winter Background

Hi everyone! Today I am sharing a card on which I coloured a winter background.
The image I used is Oddball Snowman from Stamping Bella.

First I added some shading to the snowman with BV01, N1 and 0

Tree: G24, YG06, YG03

Carrot: YR12, YR16, YR18

Arms and tree: E31, E33, E35

Hat and gloves: N3, N5, N7

Bell: Y13, Y17

Hat and scarf: R43, R24, R46

On the background:
Colours:  B23, B24, B26, B32, BV02

First I marked where I wanted to start the background, using N1

Taking the B32 I used a flicking motion to add colour upwards, starting from where I marked it with the N1.

Next I added B23, upwards from the N1 and downwards from the top of the paper.

I applied some BV02

In turn, each time using a darker colour,
I kept adding more depth until I was happy with the shading, also adding some BV02

Using N1, N3 and 0 I shaded the ground.

Cut the image down to size, mat it, and pop on the front of a card base.

You can also add snow by applying some white gel pen, if desired.

Thanks for dropping by and I hope you enjoyed this tutorial

Graduated Colour Background - Too Cute!...

Hello friends,

It's Sue here today to show you a really easy background technique with Copic Markers and Colourless Blender!
Here are the things I've used...
Whimsy Stamps Polar Bear's Christmas Tree Rubber Stamp on Make it Colour Blending Card by Elaine Hughes,
Copic Markers - B66, B63, B60, BG11, BG10, C2, B52, Colourless Blender Various Ink and a natural sponge.
I started by colouring across the bottom of the design with B52
 ...then with C2...
...then B60... Don't worry about it looking messy, this will soon be fixed!
Then I started colouring across the top of the page with B66...
...then B63...
...then B60...
 ...then BG11...
 ...then BG10...
and B60, again, do not worry about it not looking neat and well blended.
I then repeated all of the above steps, colouring the background once more in exactly the same way.

I'm sure you are all thinking Sue has lost her mind to be showing us such streaky Copic colouring but I promise you this will work out fine! :)
The next step is to dab the background all over with a sponge dipped in Colourless Blender.
I did several layers of this, letting the blender dry between each application.
You will end up with something that looks like this, with lots of texture in the background
I finished the colouring the image with Copics.

G28, G24, G21, FYG1

E04, R11

YG23, Y15, Y11, Y00

R59, R46, R24

E49, E47, E35

I finished my card by sprinkling some Perfect Pearls on the background to add some shimmer, mounting the design on glitter card and adding a silver bow!
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial!

It would be great to see your graduated colour backgrounds! Please share your cards with us at Copic Marker Europe by following the link
Thank you for popping by, Happy Copic Colouring!

Add a glow

Hi Everyone, it's Faye here today :)

This month I thought I would show you how to add a basic glow to an image. Christmas is fast approaching, so there are a lot of images around with candles, lanterns and stars. Additionally, Halloween is also coming - who wants to add a glow to a bubbling liquid inside a cauldron?

I am going to use a stamp called Snowman Joy from Whimsy Stamps.

Ok, let's start!

Firstly I am going to colour the sky using B0000, B000 and B00. I keep the darker colours close to the horizon and a little behind the snowman. I give the outer edge of the sky a generous 'smoosh' of Colourless Blender so the blue to white transition is nice and soft.

There are two things to think about at this point. Firstly, I want to keep the ink wet so when I add the yellow, it bleeds into wet ink and keeps the transition soft. You can see the ink is wet in the scan above.

Secondly, don't go too heavy with the yellow, keep the darkest colour in the centre of the glow, this will prevent the edge of the glow turning green.

Before I apply the yellow, I add a layer of Colourless Blender. You can see how much I used on the scan above. I added Y000 only to the centre, the remaining wet area looks a darker blue than the sky because it is wet, but the wetness is allowing the yellow to gently seep out without a harsh edge.

You will also notice I have taken the yellow over the whole lantern, a part of the hat and the lantern cane. When you complete the colouring, apply colour gently over the top of this area and the yellow will show through, increasing the glow effect.

While the Y000 is still wet, add Y00 to the centre of the glow area.

Again, while the ink is still wet, add Y04 to the centre of the glow area. Let this dry and then finish the image...
